Would you like to see your site’s favicon in Google search results?

Hey, I just came across an exciting update going on in Google SERPs. A favicon along with search results! Crap, I don’t believe it. Till now, we were able to see favicon at two places only:

  1. In browser tab.
  2. In browser bookmarks/favorites.

Now it’s expected that Google search results too will display it.

Favicon in search results for site: command search

Favicon in search results for site: command search

It was first noticed by Brian Ussery accidently. Some people said that it is a firefox extension that enables favicon in search results. But the favicon is hosted on google domain which confirms that it is something going on by our ‘beloved Googlers’. :) John Muller while replying to this discussion in Google Webmaster Group confirmed that they were doing some testing.

But then, who knows what’s up with Big G! May be in a few months we will be able to see it for all sites. IMHO, it will be nice to see favicon in search results as it will help in recognizing a site that was visited by someone once and he is not able to recall its domain name. He can easily identify it from favicon (a representation of a website) rather than by visiting every site in search results.

What you guys think about it? Would you like to see a favicon in search results?

I dont think favicon is a good idea, because very soon we will see people misusing favicon images and cluttering the results.

But I don’t see any way of misusing it. Favicons are basically used to recognize a site. How can people misuse them?
